Textile Storytelling

For me, quilting is about beauty, history, warmth and comfort. I can make something full of color and life that also serves to wrap around people to feel safe and cozy. Quilts can be made alone or in community, such as the Gee’s Bend Quilting Collective, the MN Stolen Neighbors Quilt, and the AIDS quilt of the 1980’s.

Quilting is an art and a craft, bringing together the past, the present and hope for the future.

I invite you to view my quilts, pillows, wall hangings, wedding canopies (chuppahs), napkins and prayer flags.

Come see my work in person at the Sonoma County Art Trails this October. Open studios will be held this year on two weekends: October 10 & 11 and October 17 & 18 from 10:00am - 5:00pm all four days.

Reach out if you’re interested in purchasing one or requesting a commissioned piece.

I learned to sew in HomeEc and have loved it ever since. My interests changed from making clothes and stuffed pigs to quilts. About 20 years ago, I took my old Kenmore metal sewing machine out of the basement and made my second quilt, and I’ve never looked back.

Here’s the first quilt I ever made when I was 19 years old.

Stacey Jo's First Quilt

When I was 14, my best friend and I used to make these pigs and sell them at holiday time.
